Waiting Kids vs. Matched Kids

We adopted Lidia because we submitted the required paperwork (dossier) to Russia, and they "matched" her to our family after reviewing the description of the child we wanted to adopt.

We adopted Sam Sam because we found him in a catalog of "waiting" children. Waiting children are children who keep getting passed over because there are no dossiers coming in that match their profile.  After being passed over a few times, they end up on a waiting list, and get extra promotion in the hopes that someone will see their picture and fall in love.

We have looked through scads of "waiting children" profiles. It is not fun.  Most of these kids have severe special needs such as blindness, paralysis of 3 limbs, severe mental retardation, etc. etc.  We have had to face the reality that we are not able to adopt any of these kids.  We already have kids with some special needs, and we recognize our limitations.

The best thing for us to do is to submit our dossier and wait for a match.   After a lot of thought and prayer and discussion, we are choosing to submit the dossier to Colombia.

Carina spent six years in Paraguay as a missionary, and is quite comfortable with Latin American culture. It would seem the obvious choice.  The only hesitation has been that our agency has not done any adoptions from Colombia, so we are the guinea pigs.  That being said, last year there were 159 Colombian adoptions compared to only 49 from Poland.

Please pray that our dossier gets approved right away, and for a speedy match.  We are not getting any younger!

On another note, if you live near Bellingham, WA, we've had some furniture donated to us in lieu of cash. We are selling these two items.  The money you spend to purchase them can be donated for a tax write-off.  Let me know if you are interested.  More information and pictures here and here.
